here are three of the smiley people who got together for aram and natalia's afterparty a while back. I've finally gotten around to posting the bulk of these photos... phew... it takes a while when you only post a few per day. on the other hand, it means people check my site more often now - I post things most days of the week. check 'em out!
more photos on my flickr site. read more about it on my blog. |

cat et gege

hey.
I was in the Sherbrooke area this weekend (again), at a farewell party for two good friends of mine, catherine and geneviève (gege). they're both going over to Africa - Gabon, more precisely - to take part in a year's worth of service. The service is organized by the Baha'i community, but such service is usually to the benefit of the greater human community. The year of service isn't obligatory for Baha'is, but it is a life-changing experience that is often recommended for adventuresome youth looking for a challenge that will allow them to explore the arena of service as well as deepen them spiritually. It can be done locally (some do service in their home town), although more often it's done somewhere in a different region or country. as an example, I did two years of service in the heartland of the province of Québec. wacky sherbrooke youth
Photo

This weekend, the intercity buses were kind enough to carry me down to Sherbrooke to enjoy the company of a bunch of fun-loving Baha'i youth. Catherine (left), a good friend of mine, is going to Gabon for a year of service in a few weeks, so I figured this would be a good opportunity to spend some time with her before she goes, as well as to visit with the rest of the local youth, most of whom I haven't seen in over a year (scandalous!!) Shamim (right) just got back from several months at a Native American reserve in South Dakota, and is suitably tanned. He didn't tell us a whole lot of stories about his experience, but he did bring back a car. A blue car. It has New Mexico plates and no keys. The ignition is a push-button. Bizarre.
Anyway, you can read about this (and MORE!) on |

super-cute picture
Photo

Well what do you know! it turned out alright. I asked these young ladies to pose for a super-cute picture, and this is what I got. This is probably the best picture I took at Vafa's movie devotional over the weekend. Every few months or so, Vafa picks a Saturday evening to invite friends (and friends of friends) over to his house to watch a movie (or movies) projected onto his wall for a big-screen feel. This Saturday we watched "Hitch" - really cute movie. Definitely one of those feel-good movies, very funny. Generally the evening starts off with Movie/TV trivia, followed by a devotional program (Baha'is have a thing for prayers and readings), after which we stock up on snacks and sit down to watch the movie of the night. Martin helped out by organizing the devotional portion, which, in passing, was very well done.
